About Fieldcroft

Trail information and route guides for Romania's mountain ranges. Based in Cluj-Napoca, operating since 2019.

What This Is

Fieldcroft is a mountain trail information resource focused on the Romanian Carpathians. The material covers three of the most visited massifs in Romania — Bucegi, Retezat and Făgăraș — with route descriptions, difficulty classifications and practical preparation notes drawn from direct field experience and publicly available park documentation.

The content is structured around marked trails rather than peak-bagging itineraries. The aim is to give a reader enough information to understand what a route actually involves before committing to it: elevation gain, character of terrain, seasonal access conditions and what can go wrong.

Editorial Approach

Route information is updated when conditions or trail management change. Seasonal notes reflect the typical pattern for each massif but are not a substitute for checking current conditions with local mountain rescue (Salvamont) before departure. Mountain conditions in Romania — as elsewhere — can differ significantly from generalised descriptions.

External links on this site point to official park authorities, Salvamont Romania and a small number of established hiking information sources. These are included because they provide current regulatory and safety information that a static editorial resource cannot replicate.
